Founder Michael Burgess was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and built the brand on his family's Scotch Bonnet traditions — peppers now grown on our family farm in St. Catherine, Jamaica, and crafted into hot sauce in Ontario. Nerpy's is a back-to-back ByBlacks People's Choice Award winner (2022 and 2023).

From Kingston to Richmond Hill

Michael Burgess moved from Jamaica to Canada in 1982 at age 12, carrying with him what he learned on his grandfather's farm in Clarendon about the produce, fruits and vegetables used in Caribbean cooking. He founded Nerpy's in 2008 (incorporated 2009) to bring real Caribbean heat to Canadian shelves — no shortcuts, no artificial ingredients. From its early days at farmers' markets across Ontario to the shelves of Metro, Sobeys and Farm Boy today, Nerpy's is still independent and Black-owned.
