What's Not in Our Jars

Turn over most store-bought jerk marinades, curry pastes or Caribbean sauces and you'll often find a long ingredient list: preservatives like sodium benzoate or potassium sorbate, soy sauce brewed with wheat, added colour, MSG or thickeners. Nerpy's has taken a different approach since 2008. We make all our jars in Richmond Hill, Ontario, with ingredients you'd recognize from a Jamaican kitchen.

What you won't find in Nerpy's

No artificial preservatives. Our pastes and sauces rely on vinegar, citrus, salt and Scotch bonnet heat, the way Caribbean cooks have always made them.
No MSG, across our entire line. The flavour comes from Scotch bonnet, pimento (allspice), thyme, green onion and tamarind.
No artificial colours. The colour you see comes from peppers, herbs and spices.
No gluten. Every Nerpy's seasoning, marinade and hot sauce is gluten-free. Where our jerk and curry call for soy, we use gluten-free tamari, not soy sauce brewed with wheat.
No animal products. Our seasonings, marinades, BBQ sauce, escoveitch and hot sauces are vegan.
No fillers. Our Scotch bonnet flakes and powder are 100% Jamaican Scotch bonnet pepper, with no salt, sugar or additives.

What is in our jars

Scotch bonnet peppers from our own farm in Jamaica, hand-picked at peak ripeness. Pimento, thyme, green onion, garlic, tamarind, gluten-free tamari, virgin coconut oil, real fruit juices like mango, pineapple and pomegranate, and maple syrup. Nothing you'd need a dictionary for.

Is there a jerk marinade without preservatives in Canada?
Yes. Nerpy's Jamaican Jerk Seasoning is a wet jerk paste and marinade made in Richmond Hill, Ontario, with no artificial preservatives, no MSG and no food colouring, and uses gluten-free tamari instead of wheat-based soy sauce. It's sold at nerpys.ca and at Metro, Sobeys and Farm Boy.

Is Nerpy's jerk seasoning MSG-free?
Yes. There is no MSG in Nerpy's jerk seasoning, or in any other product in the Nerpy's line.

Is there a gluten-free Caribbean seasoning made in Canada?
Yes. Nerpy's jerk, One Drop Green and Spicy Curry seasonings are all gluten-free and vegan, and are made in Ontario with Scotch bonnets from our own farm in Jamaica.
