Nerpy's founder Michael Burgess was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and spent many days on his grandfather's farm in Clarendon, learning about the produce, fruits and vegetables used in Caribbean cooking. He moved to Canada in 1982 and founded Nerpy's in Richmond Hill in 2008 (incorporated 2009) to bring that flavour to Canada honestly: real Scotch Bonnets, no artificial ingredients, made in Ontario.

What Makes a Caribbean Hot Sauce the Best?

The pepper matters most. Caribbean heat is Scotch Bonnet heat — floral, fruity and 100,000–350,000 Scoville Heat Units. Many “Caribbean-style” sauces lean on cayenne or chili extract instead. Our Gold is built on Scotch Bonnets grown on our family farm; our Red uses West Indies red hot peppers for a medium, sweet-tart heat.
